Ocean Grove Main Beach
Dog Controls Trials

Project Overview

Barwon Coast and the City of Greater Geelong are undertaking a two-year trial of a dog-free area at Ocean Grove Main Beach. We want to hear community views on the trial. Feedback from both dog walkers and non-dog walkers on the dog-free trial is encouraged.

Trial Area

The area of beach under consideration as a dog-free area at Ocean Grove Main Beach starts at the main beach terrace and extending approximately 805m to the stairs at 17 W East???? . The Coastal walk trail marked in white on the map below can be used as an alternative with dogs allowed on leash all year.

The two-year trial is in response to community feedback provided to the City and Barwon Coast in 2019-2020. This feedback highlighted the need for an area of beach to be set aside as dog-free all year round. To see more information on how the dog controls were developed please see our Development of Dog Controls Orders page.

The dog-free trial commenced on Ocean Grove Main Beach on 1 January 2021 and runs until the end of 2022. Year One of the trial allowed dog access to the area on lead for the cooler months of the year. 2022 is Year Two of the trial and dog-free access is applied to the area for the entire year.

1140 people shared their views on Year One of the trial via a community feedback survey. The outcomes of that survey can be viewed here.
