About the role
We are seeking a Senior Open Space Officer who will play an important role in maintaining and improving the ground and landscapes across Barwon Coast’s coastal reserves and caravan parks. You will be responsible for the development and enhancement of our open space precincts. The Senior Open Space Officer will be responsible for: Supporting the Open Space Coordinator with the strategic planning and implementation of the Open Space annual works program, ensuring that Barwon Coast can achieve its priorities in the Coastal and Marine Management Plan 2020 / 2025. Support annual programs- such as Arboricultural inspection program. Implementation of the coastal reserves annual works and maintenance program including the development and enhancement of Open Space Reserves, Caravan Parks and Camping Reserves though the consistent and efficient performance of rostered activities including maintenance works such as planting, minor tree maintenance, landscaping, track maintenance, cleaning, mowing, fencing, rubbish management, and other duties as directed. Train and Mentor Coastal Rangers. Under direction of the Open Space Coordinator, the Senior Open Space Officer will assist in the supervision of the day-to-day operations of the Open Space team. Responsible for seeking quotations, engagement of suitably qualified contractors to complete reactive and programmed works.
About you
To be successful in this role you will have: “Hands on” practical gardening maintenance skills. Ability to safely operate horticultural plant and equipment. Ability to identify customer needs and expectations, decide the appropriate action and respond accordingly. Possess the ability to effectively communicate and deal with people with professionalism, courtesy, tact and understanding. Ability to work in a team, displaying respect for all members and working cooperatively towards planned outcomes. Qualifications and expertise Essential: Trade certificate in Horticulture or Parks and Gardens and or significant experience in Parks and Gardens maintenance. Driving Licence (preferably manual) and Light Truck Licence (preferable). The following Certificates; Front end loader; Chainsaw; Farm Chemical Users Desirable: Experience in identifying and resolving minor maintenance issues. Demonstrated experience in liaising with members of the public, being well-presented and friendly and having a strong customer service focus including the ability to manage with difficult situations positively
