Draft Landscape Masterplan
In January 2010 a draft landscape masterplan for the Ocean Grove Spit including the Riverside Camping Ground was released for feedback from campers and the local community.
The Riverside Camping Ground is operated for 6 weeks a year from mid December to late January as an unpowered camping opportunity with over 200 sites.
With decisions having been made as to the location of the replacement Barwon Heads bridge and Barwon Water resolving where the new sewer main will cross the sand spit and the Barwon River, Barwon Coast are now able to undertake a full review of the area and engaged consultants to prepare the draft Landscape Masterplan.
The key issues addressed in the draft Landscape Masterplan include the retention of the six week camping season on the riverside of the road and reviewing the existing provision of amenity blocks with the potential reduction in numbers, more strategically located and more environmentally sustainable.
Also being investigated is the best linkage from the existing Barwon Estuary walk in Ocean Grove thru to the Barwon Heads bridge – this being a project under the banner of the Barwon River Parklands .
The draft Landscape Masterplan also addresses the need to provide appropriate access to 18W where Barwon Coast is funding Life Guards over summer, ensuring a patrolled beach adjacent to the camping ground.
The draft Landscape Masterplan was available for review by campers and the general community over the 2009/10 summer
