🌱 Lend a hand at Bukareeyoo🌱
Our friends at Ocean Grove Coastcare have two upcoming regeneration events at Bukareeyoo – and they’d love some extra hands!
Join the group to help remove the environmental weed Euphorbia terracina and care for this beautiful part of our coast.
📅 Sunday 27 September and Sunday 11 October
⏰ 10am–12pm
📍 BUK110 – the last car park before the Barwon Heads bridge. Look out for the Coastcare flag.
Gloves and tools will be provided, or bring your own.
Due to the plant’s irritating sap, the weeding activity isn’t suitable for children. Younger Coastcarers are still very welcome to come along with an adult and help collect rubbish.

☀️ Looking for summer work by the coast?
We’re recruiting at least 15 Casual Cleaning Officers to join our caravan park and campground team for the busy 2026–27 peak season.
Students, backpackers, seasonal workers and anyone looking for casual work are encouraged to come along to our recruitment event.

What better way to celebrate our local environment than getting out and experiencing it? There are some fantastic opportunities during the Barwon Heads Nature Festival, including:

🛶 Monday 21 September, 10.00 am–12.00 pm and 12.30–2.30 pm – Canoe the Mangroves
🌱 Tuesday 22 September, 10.00 am – Walk on Country @ Barwon Bluff with Wadawurrung Traditional Owners
🌸 Wednesday 23 September, 10.00 am – Orchids in the Park
🌊 Wednesday 23 September, 7.00–9.00 pm – Land, Sea, Sky slide night
🔬 Thursday 24 September, 1.00–3.00 pm – Tide & Seek: a family ‘marine science’ day

These are just some of the events Friends of the Bluff have planned for a nature-filled week in Barwon Heads.

Main Jetty has reopened 🎣

We’re pleased to share that safety-related structural works at Main Jetty in Barwon Heads are complete and the jetty has reopened.

Some remaining structural works are scheduled for late October and will require another temporary partial closure of the eastern (ocean) side of the jetty. We’ll share further details closer to the works.

Thank you for your patience and understanding while these important works are completed.

Looking for something to do with the kids these September school holidays? The Barwon Coast Discovery Centre will be opening its doors for extra days!

🌈🦜 Our noisy, colourful, busy neighbours!

You’ll often hear Rainbow Lorikeets before you see them – screeching and chattering as they race overhead .

With their bright red beaks, blue heads, green wings and backs, and orange-yellow breasts, they’re certainly not shy about standing out.

Rainbow Lorikeets are right at home in our coastal and urban landscapes, particularly wherever there are plenty of trees. They spend much of their time among flowering shrubs and trees, feeding on nectar and pollen, as well as fruit, seeds and the occasional insect.

And when the day is done? You might spot – or more likely hear – groups gathering together to roost at dusk.

Noisy, colourful and always busy – we reckon they bring plenty of personality to our coast. 💚

🌿 The Barwon Heads Nature Festival is almost here!
From 21–25 September, Friends of the Bluff are bringing together an amazing program of events celebrating the wonderful natural environment of Barwon Heads. There’s lots to explore, including some fantastic events happening across our coastal foreshore reserves:

🧤 Friday 25 September – Barwon Heads Great Spring Clean Up, followed by the Turning the Tide short film festival that evening.

🐌 Go searching for sea slugs at Barwon Bluff!🌊

Did you know Victoria is home to more than 400 species of colourful sea slugs?

Join Parks Victoria (@parksvic ) for a Sea Slug Census in the intertidal rockpools of the Barwon Bluff Marine Sanctuary and see what you can discover.
